Privacy Policy
Write A Letter is an app for writing letters — real ones, meant for one person. Privacy isn't a compliance checkbox for an app like this; it's the product. This page explains, plainly, what happens to your words and your data.
Your letters live on your device
Letters you write are stored locally on your phone. There are no accounts, no sign-ins, and no copy of your letters on our servers — with one exception, below, that you choose.
Sharing a letter uploads that letter
When you tap share, that letter — its text, your chosen stationery, and the signature you added — is uploaded to our server so it can live at a private link (like writealetter.app/l/abc123). Links are long and unguessable, and we keep shared letters out of search engines, but anyone who has the link can read that letter. Only letters you explicitly share are ever uploaded. Shared letters currently remain on the server so their links keep working; if you want one removed, email us and we'll delete it.
Anonymous usage analytics
To understand which parts of the app matter and what to improve, the app records anonymous usage events — things like "a letter was written" or "a paper style was chosen".
- The content of your letters, recipient names, and signatures are never included in analytics.
- Events are tied to a random identifier generated on your device — not your name, email, phone number, or any advertising ID.
- Events are processed on our behalf by PostHog (cloud analytics). We don't sell or share this data with anyone else, and we show no ads.
Notifications
Notifications (a sealed letter arriving, an occasional invitation to write) are scheduled entirely on your device. There is no push-notification infrastructure and no message content in them.
What we never do
- No selling of data, to anyone, ever.
- No advertising and no ad trackers.
- No reading of your letters — the only letters that ever reach us are the ones you share, and those exist solely to serve their link.
Deleting your data
Deleting a letter in the app removes it from your device. Deleting the app removes everything local. For a shared letter's link to be removed from the server, email us with the link and we'll take it down.
Children
Write A Letter is not directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date.
